Motion sensor
Discover our range of wireless door sensors dedicated to industrial IoT solutions.
Which motion sensor to choose?
Our wireless motion sensor is available in two formats (PUCK and COIN), enabling it to be adapted to the environment in which it will be installed. What’s more, the sensor is developed using two technologies: Wirepas Mesh and Bluetooth Low Energy. The choice of which technology will depend on the type of IoT infrastructure you wish to deploy, and on the required battery life of the sensors:
Why choose ELA Innovation's motion sensor?
A true motion detection system, this sensor is an essential accessory for optimizing the management of commercial and industrial buildings.
100% autonomous: its energy efficiency means up to 18 years of battery life.
100% anonymous & secure: this sensor emits a hexadecimal data frame containing no personal data, ensuring total anonymity of the information sent to the customer’s servers.
Robust: the IP68 certified industrial housing is perfectly adapted to extreme environments. It will resist shocks and vibrations.
Easy and quick to install: ultra simple to install thanks to the various means of fixation (high performance double-sided sticker or support with fixation holes for screws or cables ), this sensor can be fixed on any type of surface and requires no wiring.
Automated inventory is becoming increasingly popular in industry. Asset management and tracking represent major challenges, both in terms of security and productivity.
In 2023, the global market for automated inventory solutions was valued at $12.5 billion, and is expected to reach over $23 billion by 2028, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 13.1% over the forecast period 2023-2028.
To meet these challenges, we recommend integrating our motion sensors into your business solution. Robust and easy to install, our Bluetooth magnetic sensors can be easily integrated into digital solutions.
How does a motion sensor work?
The door-opening sensor uses Bluetooth Low Energy wireless communication technology. This “open” communication protocol is integrated into all smartphones, as well as the majority of on-board telematics units, simplifying the deployment and use of wireless sensors.
The Bluetooth motion sensor incorporates a 3-axis accelerometer (vertical, horizontal, depth), enabling it to detect acceleration in a 3D frame of reference. This acceleration, measured in “g”, translates into a change of state for the sensor, from static (0) to “in motion” (1).
It is therefore possible to determine where the gravitational acceleration is located on the X, Y and Z axes. If it’s on the Z axis, we can deduce that the sensor is “flat”. If it’s on the X or Y axis, we know that the sensor is on edge.
This information can therefore be used to determine whether a sensor is in motion, and whether it has changed angle in the 3D reference frame defined at the outset.
Alerts can be defined according to the sensor’s acceleration threshold. When the sensor reaches the pre-defined threshold(s), an alert is sent to the client’s servers.
The data is collected at regular intervals by a gateway, which can be a router, smartphone or GPS tracker.
Thanks to advanced functions (BAF), such as intelligent mode, it is possible to define 2 emission periods depending on whether a threshold is exceeded. If the sensor does not exceed the threshold defined at the outset, then the advertising period will be long (e.g. 1h). If the motion threshold is exceeded, then the advertising period will accelerate, so that the sensor advertises every 10 seconds, until the detected motion returns to normal.
This data is transferred by the gateway to the server/cloud, where the raw data is processed and analyzed. The data can then be visualized in a business application in the form of a history or graph. Depending on the integrator, e-mail and SMS alerts can be sent.
What is the purpose of a motion sensor?
A motion sensor detects movement within its field of detection. These devices are indispensable for automation, security and intelligent building management. With these sensors, managers can optimize the use of human, material and energy resources.
Tracking animals in pastures
With the global livestock market estimated to be worth $3.83 billion by 2022 and growing, responsibility for maintaining the well-being and health of farm animals is becoming increasingly important in modern agriculture.
Here, movement sensors are attached to the animals’ collars. The herding dogs (or other individuals in the herd) carry a GNSS tracker which scans the nearby sensors, enabling the farmer to visualize the daily activity of his herd on a mobile or PC application.
NME tracking on an airport tarmac
The management of NME (Non Motorized Equipment) is a major challenge at airports, whether in terms of safety to avoid accidents, or productivity to enable operators to manage the logistics of this equipment.
In this case, a Bluetooth motion sensor is fitted to each NME (luggage cart, container carrier, tow bar, etc.). A number of vehicles acting as gateways will be geolocated on the tarmac, giving the GPS position of the equipment, as well as checking whether or not the equipment has moved.
Antitheft equipment in refrigeration units
Security is one of the most important objectives for companies. The aim here is to combat theft of refrigeration units (compressors, pumps, etc.) by providing a real-time guarantee that these components are present.
To achieve this, Bluetooth motion sensors will be placed on the equipment and will send a real-time alert if the movement or angle threshold is crossed.
Storage of isothermal crates
The storage of goods represents a major challenge for companies, all the more so when these goods are fragile, such as isothermal crates. Indeed, the rubber that is supposed to be used to protect the equipment inside the crate is sometimes mistaken for a support by end-users. As a result, the crate is incorrectly positioned (the rubber is on the floor rather than against the wall), and spills can damage the equipment.
Isothermal cases can be fitted with a Bluetooth movement sensor that alerts the user in real time when the cases are not facing the right way. Thanks to advanced BAF (Bluetooth Advanced Features) functions, it is possible to determine various parameters such as the frequency and precise conditions for triggering the alert.

How do I install ELA Innovation's wireless motion sensors?
Thanks to the range of accessories developed by ELA Innovation, the installation and use of the sensors is ultra simple and fast. The different fastening systems are secured for industrial use without the risk of the beacon becoming detached.
For products in PUCK format, multi-fixation holders called PUCK Holder Sticker are available.
These accessories consist of a beacon holder, a high-performance double-sided adhesive, a locker and a TORX security screw. The locker and screw secure the beacon in its holder. This makes them particularly suitable for use where shock or vibration is likely to occur.
Thanks to their multi-fixing system, PUCKs can be installed in 3 different ways on a wide range of materials (concrete, wood, plastic, metal, etc.):
- Glued with double-sided adhesive
- Screwed in with 2 screws
- Attached with a nylon clamp
