Opening detection of truck side panels : securing construction vehicles

In July 2020, a technical note relating to hydraulic tipper vehicles equipped with sideboards was published in the official journal requiring manufacturers and users of this type of vehicle to be equipped with a hazard warning device.

Technical Operation

From a technical point of view, the solution for detecting the opening of the sides of hydraulic dump trucks is based on an extremely light infrastructure made up of magnetic sensors and magnets associated with Electro Maintenance’s ATLAS Connect box.

The wireless magnetic sensor is hooked on the truck and the magnet on the side panel. When the magnet and the magnetic sensor are separated by more than 2cm, an alert is sent to the driver to warn them, and thus lowering the chance of having an accident due to the vehicle sideboards opening. The information about the loss of magnetic contact is sent via Bluetooth Low Energy to the ATLAS Connect box, which will itself act as a gateway and send the information to the business application or PC.
