How does geolocation of recycling skips work?
The beacon identifier is attached directly to the skip. 100% autonomous, it transmits a unique identifier via Bluetooth Low Energy to the mobile gateways located at the depot sites and to the GPS units installed in the cabs of the lorries that transport them to the various sites.
The trucks’ GPS units transmit information via the cellular network (3G/4G) to the IoT platform. The mobile gateways used by the operators on the sites monitor the presence of the tippers in real time and provide an accurate inventory of the fleet.
This enables operators to view the location and status of skips on their platform, monitor movements and detect any anomalies to improve the management and responsiveness of operations.
